SYNOPSIS
The Last Five Years, winner of the Drama Desk Award, is a contemporary song-cycle musical by Jason Robert Brown. It chronicles the five-year arc of a marriage from two perspectives: Cathy’s story is told in reverse chronological order, starting at the end of the relationship, while Jamie’s is told chronologically, beginning with their first meeting. The characters only directly interact during a wedding song at the midpoint. This deeply personal narrative explores the complexities of love, ambition, and heartbreak. This is a sung through musical without an intermission
Note that there is minimal spoken dialogue in this show, so strong vocal ability and storytelling through song are essential.
